Morningstar is a far future universe in which humanity has become an ancient species, dominating a region of stars which it exploits completely through a series of MacroCorporations that influence every aspect of society with their products and services.
Aliens, called Exogens, are hunted mercilessly for sport while war and conflict have become merely aspects of entertainment. It’s a good place to be wealthy, and if you’re not, it’s probably your fault. Supported by a growing community, we’re inspired to approach franchise creation on an indie level.
The Avarice RPG is a far-future, grimdark science-fiction roleplaying game where humanity has conquered the stars but lost its soul. Set in the corporate regime of the Hegemon, every citizen is measured, judged, and controlled through endless metrics. Life has been reduced to ledgers. Identity is something you finance. Freedom is something you owe. Advancement is purchased in Credit, demanded in service, or stolen through risk.
You are a Consumer, a disposable asset working for MacroCorps, planetary syndicates, or just trying to make it on your own. Every mission puts your reputation, financial standing, and physical life on the line. Success brings rewards by raising your Credit and opening new opportunities for you. Failure brings debt, corporate penalties, and the attention of skiptracers trained to reclaim assets - including you.
Avarice uses the award-winning 2d20 System by Modiphius Entertainment and has been adapted to fit the grimdark, far-flung future of the Hegemon of a Thousand Empires. Ventures unfold for the players like a movie with tight, deliberate, story-driven scenes that are shaped by the consequences of every player's Skill Test. Players build Momentum through their actions, while the Auditor uses Exposure to escalating the danger for the group . Every roll is a negotiation between risk and survival.
Across the Hegemon, trustBrands are treated as gospel. MacroCorps wage quiet wars over consumer loyalty. Humans span Known Space, but there are others like exogens and synthetics who compete for resources among the stars. While there is no universal government, planetary governments often act as MacroCorps subsidiaries, focusing entire worlds on single industries or interests. While the public believes the Hegemon brings order, those working in its shadows know the truth: the system only cares about profit.
The Avarice RPG offers:
- Nine archetypes: Executor, Innovator, Jockey, Opportunist, Promoter, Shank, Techanic, Trigger, and Vitalist. Each is shaped further through specialized Talents.
- A robust Talent system built on clear conditions and benefits, rooted in the 2d20 SRD talent-building rules.
- A deep Credit-based progression system where you manage debt, Consumer Merit, and Risk Index to climb the social ladder, or be crushed under it.
- Rules for organoids, psionics, skimming, electronic warfare, and corporate-grade equipment.
- A setting steeped in corporate, far-future horror: frontier worlds scarred by old wars, abandoned orbital rings, and Macro Corporations quietly manipulating billions upon billions of people behind the scenes.
- Narrative fiction taken from the Project Morningstar universe, featuring warring factions, thousands of planets to explore, incredibly deep lore, hundreds of miniature models.
